Impressionism Continued

We continue this week learning about Impressionism. Today we learned about Pierre Renoir and imitated his Girl with a Watering Can.

Impressionism: Monet's Japanese Garden

We started a new artist today: Claude Monet. The children worked on their interpretations of The Japanese Bridge, they are looking great!

Matisse Jack-o-Lanterns

The children created Jack-o-Lanterns inspired by Henri Matisse's style. They used one black sheet and a half-sheet of orange paper. Nothing was wasted, every cut piece was used, thereby creating a positive and negative image.
This is our work based on Pablo Picasso's "Le Petite Fleurs." We definitely have some budding artists!

Responsible 1st graders

Parents, on a beautiful day like today the children stayed in from recess to write a reflection about how they can be responsible members of our classroom community :(
There have been too many incidents over the last few weeks of pencils being broken, glue bottles being left open and consequently spilling onto other bottles, etc. Please talk to your child, in general, about taking care of the classroom materials. Thank you!

Students who earned a Millionaire Club Tee Shirt by participating in HISD's Summer Reading Program should wear their tee shirts on Thursday, October 15 as recognition of their achievement. These were distributed about 2 weeks ago.

Congratulations to Haejun Lee: 1st grade winner for the Spooky Spaghetti T-shirt contest!!!! Wow, her achievement fits in perfectly with our current planner!

I think I overheard some people wanting to do this again!
